Basingstoke Discovery Centre brings you the Learning at the Centre Project.

The Learning at the Centre Project offers Independent Living Skills short courses and a range of activities for adults with learning and physical disabilities.

Many of the courses and activities available are free ranging from single half and full day workshops to eight week courses, going at a suitable pace for each individual. Groups are small  and informal, with participants welcome to attend with support  if they wish.

Any enquiries from individuals or carers are welcome.

Learning at the Centre is Big Lottery funded.

Recently participants have enjoyed:

  • Exploring Basingstoke history and making a display called My History
  • Designing and sewing an appliqué cushion cover
  • Practicing how to identify different coins and how to count out the money to buy everyday things
  • Developing ways to cope with negative feelings through relaxation methods and sensory awareness
  • Relaxing with dance and movement
  • Creating poetry with our Poet-in-residence
  • Discovering how the Basingstoke Safe Place Scheme works
  • Making music and being recorded on CD

Discovery Centre facilities include

  • Hearing and sight loss clinics run by Adult Services Sensory Loss Team
  • Hearing loops at the information desk and in the Community and Business Rooms
  • Accessible toilet with baby change facilities
  • Changing Places toilet which operates on the RADAR Key Scheme
  • Free hearing aid batteries for NHS provided hearing aids
  • Self service machines to borrow and return items (2 at lower level)
  • Large print keyboards, roller ball mouse and height adjustable table available for computer users
  • Software to magnify  text on the computer screen or to speak text
  • Books in large print and spoken word formats
